Sweet Dalia Recipe (Meetha Daliya)

Sweet Dalia (Meetha Daliya) is a nutritious and delicious Indian dessert made from roasted broken wheat cooked in milk and sweetened with sugar or jaggery. Flavoured with cardamom and garnished with dry fruits, it has a rich, creamy texture and a comforting taste. This healthy sweet dish is perfect for breakfast, festive occasions, or as a light dessert after meals.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup broken wheat (Dalia)

  • 2 cups milk (or 1 cup milk + 1 cup water)

  • 3–4 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)

  • 1 tbsp ghee

  • 1–2 tbsp chopped dry fruits

    • Almonds

    • Cashews

    • Raisins

  • 2–3 cardamom pods (or ½ tsp cardamom powder)

  • A pinch of saffron (optional)

Follow Method:

Step 1. Roast the Dalia

  • Heat ghee in a pan.

  • Add dalia and roast on low flame until light golden and aromatic.

Step 2. Cook the Dalia

  • Add milk (and water if using).

  • Cook on medium flame for 10–12 minutes until dalia becomes soft.

  • Stir occasionally to avoid sticking.

Step 3. Add Sweetness

  • Add sugar and mix well.

  • Cook for 3–4 minutes more until slightly thick.

Step 4. Add Flavour

  • Add cardamom powder and saffron.

  • Mix well.

Step 5. Garnish

  • Add chopped dry fruits and cook for 1 minute.
